While Anabelle hasn’t yet uttered her first recognizable words … she is excellent at communicating with noises and gestures and she definitely understands an amazing amount of what we say to her! I suspect she’s saving up her her verbal skills and will suddenly just start speaking in complete sentences someday soon. She knows where her feet are (and even knows her left from her right foot!). She knows where her ears are and where her hair is. And when asked, “Anabelle, can you say momma?”, she simply shakes her head “yes” and then giggles when I reply with, “Well, then say it!”.
Anabelle also has an arsenal of gestures. Her most recent gesture is the “huh?” sign with her hands turned upright. She does this when she finishes her food and wants to know “who the heck ate all that?”. She also does this when she repeatedly hides her toys under her bed … turning around each time as if to say, “where’d it go?” And she does this if something just seems a bit odd or out of the ordinary to her. Along with the gesture itself, she usually makes an inquisitive “uuuhhh???” sound.
